Selective Laser Melting

& Direct Metal Laser Sintering

The additive manufacturing SLM/DMLS systems are based on metal powder deposition in thin layers (0,03/0,05 mm). A 400w laser melts the powder with optimized exposure strategies in order to apply the enrgy evenly and avoid deformation.

This technology is very similar to the rapid prototyping processes.Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) differ from "traditional" RP technologies because the buildign material are pure, the high density (nearly 100%) and the high hardness (up to 54 HRC).

The functioning scheme in three phases

Selective Laser Melting Phase 1

Phase 1

Building (-z) and powder (+z) platmform movemet

Selective Laser Melting Phase 2

Phase 2

Coating a thin layer of powder through a steel or ceramic blade. The excess powder goes into a container on the left.

Selective Laser Melting Phase 3

Phase 3

Selective Laser Melting fo a thin powder layer with a fiber laser
